How many times has one of your clients wanted to give up during a workout? What about you? Well, according to health expert Gretchen Reynolds in contribution to The New York Times, you both are certainly not alone. In fact: “Intense, highly demanding exercise has many health benefits and one signal drawback. It can be physically unpleasant, which deters many people from beginning or sticking with an intense exercise program.”
Whether you’re well-seasoned in the personal training industry, or you’re just starting out—it’s inevitable that you will work with a client who lacks the motivation he or she will need in order to see his or her goals all the way through.
So how can you give these clients an extra boost? “An encouraging new study … suggests that listening to music makes strenuous workouts feel easier and may nudge people into pushing themselves harder than they had thought possible,” says Reynolds. Next time your clients have to power through an additional mile or complete an at-home fitness assignment, encourage them to freshen up their music library with the right heart-pumping tunes.
