Expanded Discussion Topics:
- Casein and Type 1 Diabetes
Some countries have low rates; some have high rates. Japan, for example, has type 1 diabetes rates 18 times lower than the United States. And, that’s not just genetics, since when children migrate, they tend to acquire the risk of their new home—suggesting it’s got to have something to do with the environment, diet, or lifestyle. - Ginger for Osteoarthritis
Ginger can actually improve stomach-lining protection. So ginger, at the kinds of doses used to treat osteoarthritis (a quarter- to a half-teaspoon a day), can be considered not just neutral on the stomach, but beneficial. It can be as pain relieving as ibuprofen, but without the risk of stomach ulcers. - Chocolate and Stroke Risk
Choose unprocessed since the flavanols are what give cocoa its bitterness. So they try to process cocoa with alkali to destroy them, on purpose. Thus, when it comes to cocoa, “bitter [appears to be] better.” - Vitamin D for Asthma
Giving asthmatic kids between 500 and 2,000 international units of vitamin D3 a day cuts asthma exacerbations by more than half, perhaps by decreasing the incidence of respiratory infections by boosting immunity while at the same time diminishing inflammation. - Prostate Cancer Treatment and Green Tea
A recent study randomized about 100 men with prostate cancer to consume 6 cups a day of green or black tea, and found a significant drop in PSA levels and NF-kappa beta in the green tea group.
